NIRH’s LARC Access Project addresses policy and systems-level barriers to long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), including IUDs and implants. This project is guided by two values: all people deserve access to the full range of contraceptive options so they can select and use the method that is right for them, and all work to increase access to reproductive health care, including contraception, must center patient autonomy and choice. Operating from this framework, NIRH focuses on access to LARC because a range of policy and systems-level barriers often make them difficult to provide and obtain, including low insurance reimbursement rates, inflexible health care administration systems, and lack of provider training.
NIRH supports its LARC partners by offering technical assistance as needed, linking their work to state and national trends and best practices, and lifting up their successes and lessons learned to share with the field.
